Minimundus

At Minimundus - the small world on Lake Wörthersee, around 140 of the most beautiful models of buildings from all over the world are presented on a scale of 1:25! And if technically possible, all models are made with original materials (marble, truff, lava basalt…).
Minimundus is a company of "Rettet das Kind - Kärnten". All net proceeds are used to help children in need!

Happ Reptile Zoo

Austria's largest reptile zoo with its own dinosaur garden offers a fascinating world of crocodiles, turtles and snakes! There is also an insectarium with tarantulas, scorpions, aquariums with fish from Lake Wörthersee and much more!

Gailtal local history museum

The distance from the hotel to the Gailtaler Heimatmuseum is approx. 7.7 km, 12 minutes by car!

Möderndorf Castle near Hermagor on the Egger-Alm road displays folkloristic and cultural-historical collections from the Gail, Gitsch and Lesachtal valleys.

Tressdorfer Alm - show dairy

Show dairy on the Tressdorfer Alm

The distance from the hotel to the show dairy is approx. 25 km, 26 minutes by car!

At the middle station of the Millenium Express, the show dairy awaits you: look over the cheesemaker's shoulder and experience how our tasty alpine milk is turned into "cheese".

Here, delicious Gailtaler Almkäse, Alm-Camembert, sour cream butter, yogurt and much more are made by hand according to old traditional recipes. Free grazing goats, cows and horses characterize the image of the alpine pasture, an ideal family excursion destination on the Sonnenalpe Nassfeld.

Velden on Lake Wörthersee

The distance from the hotel to Velden is approx. 70 km, 50 minutes by car!

The town of Velden stretches along the western bay of Lake Wörthersee. Although Velden is not a town, it is considered one of Carinthia's summer capitals.

During romantic walks along the promenade, you can enjoy the view of the wonderful Wörthersee and prepare yourself for a visit to the casino.

Every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday you can admire the water-light-laser spectacle "Klangwelle" at 10 pm in the Veldner Bucht free of charge (in September at 9 pm). Information about the boat times on Lake Wörthersee is available at reception!

Worth seeing East Tyrol, Lienz

As the name suggests, this beautiful part of Austria is no longer part of Carinthia. Nevertheless, we would like to give you a few tips for excursions. The distance from the hotel to Lienz is only approx. 55 km, just under an hour by car!

The Liebburg: representative building erected by the Wolkenstein-Rodeneggs on today's main square.

Bruck Castle: former stronghold of the Counts of Gorizia, museum with gallery of famous artists such as Albin Egger-Lienz. Knights' Hall and Gothic castle chapel.

St. Andrä parish church: the oldest church in the town with the tombstone of the last Count Leonhard of Gorizia, originally Romanesque, converted into a three-aisled Gothic basilica by the Counts of Gorizia in the 15th century.

Aguntum: the only Roman town on Tyrolean soil, a flourishing trading and industrial town in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, today an archaeological park with the Aguntum Town Museum and an excavation area of approx. 20,000 m².

Udine

Udine is not really in Carinthia either (strictly speaking). However, the capital of our neighboring region Friuli is so beautiful and only about 90 km, about 1 hour drive, away from our hotel. We would therefore highly recommend a visit!

Udine, the capital of Friuli-Venezia Giulia with just over 100,000 inhabitants, invites you to stroll through its historic old town center as well as to enjoy culinary delights.

Terra Mystica & Terra Montana

The distance from the hotel is approx. 26 km, approx. 26 minutes by car!

Terra Mystica
On the 68 m long miner's slide, you can dive into the wonderful world underground. Seven mines with fascinating multimedia shows about the formation of the earth, the realm of the underworld, the miracle healer Paracelsus and an original replica of a waterwheel winding machine allow you to experience the underground world up close. The mine train ride at the end makes the visit a unique experience.

Terra Montana
The mountain railway slide and the 2 km long mine train take you to 14 stations about active mining. Experience the miner's world of work, from manual labor to modern mechanical mining methods.

The distance from the hotel is approx. 60 km, approx. 45 minutes by car!

Eagle flight show
The primary aim of the bird of prey flight show is to bring people closer to birds of prey and to teach them interesting facts about these wonderful animals. The birds were not taken from the wild, but come entirely from captive breeding.

In a 40-minute demonstration, you will experience our birds of prey flying freely in the sky in the updraft of the famous Landskron Castle. After breathtaking flights, the birds return to the falconer standing right in front of you.

Have you ever seen monkeys in the wild? Here at Affenberg you can see 104 Japanese macaques in the wild. No glass panes or cage bars separate you from the animals. Even better this year: new park with lots of play facilities for children, baby changing station, sandpit with toys, dog garden (Pet Care), free children's entertainment on Sundays and public holidays.

Lake Weissensee is the highest bathing lake in the Alps and has drinking water quality. Enjoy the scenery around the fjord-like lake, do sports in the Active Fitness Park or on one of the many hikes or from the boat.
